![]() Compass - In Police testing, the word "Compass" can refer to two different vendor exams: (1) The Police Officer Entry Level test (PO-EL) is published by IPMA-HR and is part of their Public Safety Compass services, and (2) the ACT Compass Placement Tests are now called the ACT WorkKeys Assessments published by ACT and are sometimes used by law enforcement agencies for basic abilities testing. Cognitive Abilities - When you hear a test refer to sections as Cognitive Abilities, this means stuff that you learned in school, like reading, writing, math, etc. The CLOZE is found on the California PELLETB exam, but is less common in other parts of the U.S. ![]() The test measures vocabulary, spelling and grammar concurrently. This letter count, plus the context of the passage, are the only clues the student has for determining the correct words. The blank words indicate how many letters are in the desired word. Effective June 2019, the FBAT (Florida Basic Abilities Test) has been retired and the CJBAT is the only entry test recommended by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE.) CLOZE - The CLOZE reading test is a powerful form of reading test where the student must fill in missing words in a passage. CJBAT - The Criminal Justice Basic Abilities Test (CJBAT) is the entry level test used by most law enforcement agencies in Florida. You may be taking the B-PAD and be recorded, or you may take it live in front of a panel. Situational tests have been found to be highly predictive of job success. B-PAD involves a behavioral response test that uses job-relevant video scenarios to simulate real situations on the B-PAD - is the acronym for Behavioral Personnel Assessment Device. These tests, in general, are known as Bio Data. Behavioral Testing - See Personality Profile Bio Data - In addition to testing an applicants cognitive abilities (the stuff you learn in school) there are a variety of tools used to collect and measure an applicant's personality, work experience or attitudes. BART Police - The Police Department dedicated to protecting the Bay Area Rapid Transit in the San Francisco Bay area. Barron's book has been around for decades, but is considered inefficient and antiquated compared to modern online prep courses. Their book titled, "Police Officer Exam" presents information, practice tests, and strategies for the different question types used by police departments. Associative Memory - Some police exams include memorization questions, such as memorizing information from wanted posters that requires later recall.
